Greener is detail.
The energy usage of a building once completed is also critical and high levels of insulation will greatly reduce the energy to heat our homes and so also reduce running costs. However, unless proper care and attention is given during the construction phase to ensure air tightness and lack of draughts, the effectiveness of even the thickest insulation will be much reduced.
Greener is recycling.
Greener building can be viewed in a number of ways and recycling plays an important role. Our granite builds for instance always use reclaimed stone where possible and Welsh or local Foundland slates for roofing work.
Greener is local.
Building materials generally take a lot of energy both to produce and to move around thecountry. Anything that alleviates this will be beneficial for the environment. Locally sourced and sawn Douglas fir, Larch and Oak for example are often used in our projects. Long distance transport is reduced plus the local rural economy benefits.
Greener is technology.
The way we heat our homes can further drive down energy consumption and fuel costs. We are experienced in working closely with specialist companies to install heat pumps, biomass and solar technologies.
